Martin Boyle on Aberdeen’s radar with the forward set to depart Hibs

Aberdeen born, Martin Boyle could be on his way to Pittodrie as his spell in Leith is set to come to an end. Aberdeen appear to be keen on the Hibs attacker who is set to depart as Stephen Robinson looks ahead to his first window as Aberdeen boss. Boyle confirmed he will be departing the Easter Road side with Aberdeen hoping to capture the Australian International for next season after many failed attempts in previous years to take in Boyle. Aberdeen have begun to shortlist potential signings but won’t go any further until they confirm they will be playing premiership football next campaign. Boyle has had many other options to consider with clubs from England also showing interest as well as many other teams from both Australia and Asia but a potential move back to where he grew up could be on the cards as Robinson looks to opt for experience. Martin Boyle has had a couple spells with Scottish clubs starting with Montrose which saw him join Dundee after some impressive form at Links Park. Boyle made 65 appearances with the Dens Park outfit, netting 5 goals where he went on to join Hibs, spending 12 years in Edinburgh being a star player for the Leith side which also included a short spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Faisaly in 2021. Aberdeen are also set to loose many other players with Liam Morrison set to return to QPR, Geiger set to return to Hoffenheim, Cameron set to go back to Rangers after all their loan spells as well as their captain Shinnie who is out-of-contract come end of the season with Findlay Marshall who has impressed highly on-loan at Arbroath signing a new deal keeping him at Pittodrie until 2028. Elvis Bwomono is also set to depart with his short-term deal coming to an end as well as Tom McIntrye with Toyosi Olusanya returning to Houston following his loan spell.

Stephen Robinson states Aberdeen are still in the relegation fight despite Hibs victory.

The Aberdeen boss says Aberdeen are still not safe as they defeat Hibernian 2-0 at Pittodrie as they go five ahead of Kilmarnock. Aberdeen picked up their first win since January, defeating Hibs 2-0 in the Granite City which was a massive weight off their shoulders as they edge closer away from relegation. Aberdeen now sit 5-points ahead of 11th placed Kilmarnock with the Dons next fixture being at home to Killie with a win there almost securing their Premiership status next season. Robinson said: “I thought we were excellent throughout, even at 11 vs 11. Some of our play was really good. We didn’t look like we were in a relegation battle. “The situation we’re in comes with a lot of pressure, comes with a lot of criticism, some of it deserved as well and I thought the boys stood up to be counted today. “There were some really, really good performances. We spoke about keeping clean sheets, which the team managed today and that starts from the front. “We said if we deliver balls into the box, Kevin Nisbet scores goals. He’s proved that and I thought he was excellent throughout today. “His work ethic as well was excellent, and it doesn’t make us safe by any stretch of the imagination. But certainly, that’s what I’m seeing in training, and now we’ve been able to put that together on the pitch. “I just felt when they came in Monday morning, there was no excuse mentally. We got them going again.” Robinson agreed it was a much-improved type of performance with it being just their second league win in 2026. Robinson said: “Afeez (Aremu), Stuart (Armstrong) and Lyall (Cameron) thought ran the game. Stuart Armstrong’s a joy to watch at times. He gives us that composure. It doesn’t faze him at all. Afeez as well, now he’s getting fitter and stronger, knowing what we want from him. “I thought Lyall really contributed to that as well. So, to a man, there wasn’t a bad performance. The back three defended really well. We said don’t concede a goal, let’s get a clean sheet. Then you don’t lose the game. And they’ve done that even in the last couple of minutes when they were tired. “And they’ve shown that they have got that fight. I mentioned the fans as well, I thought they were superb, right behind the players. It helps so much when they do that.” “I told them to bottle the feeling because they haven’t won for a long time at home, I think it was the first win in the league since December and clean sheet since December.” Aberdeen will now have an extra weekend off as it’s Scottish Cup weekend as they look to build momentum going into the final bottom-six matches coming up. He added: “We said on Friday it was the best atmosphere we’ve seen for a long, long time, and some of the staff have been here and said it was the best atmosphere they’ve seen in maybe three or four months. “There was a little bit of togetherness, people smiling, people enjoying themselves and actually enjoying being together at the training ground. So sometimes that relates on to the pitch and if we can continue to build on that, there are good players here. We know there’s lots of things that haven’t been good enough this season and we worry about that at the end of the season.” There was some referee controversy as Gyamfi appeared to punch Hibernian striker Owen Elding in the back of the head which was given as a yellow following a VAR check. Robinson also said: “When they come over, you obviously expect the worst, don’t you? But nobody on either bench thought it was a red card. They thought it was a free-kick at best. “But on both benches we’d seen it back and we were amazed he was called over. So thankfully they’ve come to the right decision in the end.” Next up for the Dons is Kilmarnock at home  as they look to make the gap eight points between the two sides and steer away from the relegation scrap.

Relegation Battle: Could Aberdeen be in the chance of relegation?

It’s been a poor season for the Dons as relegation is becoming a high chance as the Dons begin to really struggle. Aberdeen who sit 9th, joint 10th with St Mirren and just three points ahead of Kilmarnock seem to be in real danger with near enough no confidence in the Aberdeen squad and St Mirren starting to pick up form with Kilmarnock looking slightly better, this may be Aberdeen’s time over. Most the chats been about the entertaining title race going on at the top, but one of Scotland’s biggest teams may be set to be within the chance of Championship football next season. As of late, it’s been nothing but a disappointment in the Granite City with just one league win in 2026 which came against bottom of the league, Livingston after a 6-2 victory. The Dons have only won once in their last 10 – a 2-0 win in the Scottish Cup over Motherwell but were later denied a spot at Hampden against Dunfermline. To dive deeper into some stats, in the last 48 points which were available to Aberdeen, the Dons only picked up six. As well as that, Aberdeen have only scored once on the road this year with their last away win being at the start of December. Livingston who have only won once all season, have picked up more points (7) than Aberdeen (5) in their last 15 matches. Aberdeen’s last win against one of the top-six sides was all the way back in November – a 1-0 win over league leaders Hearts. The Pittodrie side also haven’t won a game in the last eight attempts and have conceded in all of their last six as Aberdeen enter the final hurdle this season. So Aberdeen haven’t had the manager bounce they had hoped for under Stephen Robinson in which Robinson has only picked up one point so far in charge which came against Falkirk. Next up for the Dons is a home match against Hibernian which will be nothing but a tough test to come. For other sides within the relegation spots, St Mirren travel to Celtic and Kilmarnock host Dundee at Rugby Park. Can Aberdeen avoid any relegation fears or will they grab that 11th spot with Livingston looking likely to grab that bottom spot?

“He wasn’t going to contribute to us staying up” – Robinson on Nilsen’s departure

Aberdeen boss Stephen Robinson said “He wasn’t [Nilsen] going to contribute to us staying up” in a recent interview as the Dons aim to fight off relegation. Stephen Robinson came out to say if Sivert Heltne Nilsen was to stay at Pittodrie, the Norwegian wouldn’t have been able to contribute to staying up which has gained some disappointment by the Aberdeen support with Robinson also claiming it would be “unfair” to let Nilsen depart. Nilsen departed the Dons a couple of weeks ago to return to Norway during a time which has been really difficult for Aberdeen as the midfielder left for FK Haugesund. The 34-year-old made 56 appearances in Red, scoring just two goals for the Pittodrie side. Many Aberdeen fans have shown disappointment due to the timing of the departure as Nilsen left during a very fragile moment as Aberdeen continue to try and avoid the drop in which was been a horrendous past few months in the Granite City. Robinson said: “Let me first say, Sivert is a great boy. I loved working with him for that short period of time. “(But) Sivert hasn’t played a game for… I think he’s started one game in months and months and months, so he wasn’t an integral part of the squad. “He got a four-year contract and a coaching offer, which was nearly a seven-year contract. “He made it very, very clear he wanted to go home. “And sometimes you have to be fair in life. “And if he wasn’t going to contribute to us staying up in terms of the pitch minutes – and previous suggests he wasn’t going to do that – I think it would have been very, very unfair to say ‘you can stay there and maybe not even be on the bench at stages’. “So yes, I believe that was the right decision.” Aberdeen appear to not have many older faces and experience which Nilsen had as the Norwegian was one of the older players within the squad although Robinson is known for playing the youth during in time in Paisley. After being questioned on whether Aberdeen need to look into some more experienced faces: “There’s a little bit of disparity in the squad, of course. “That’s not something I can focus on right now. I have to get the best I possibly can out of what’s available. “And then we’ll worry about it in the summer. “But yes, I certainly take your point on that, yes. “Well, we do that anyway.”

Sivert Heltne Nilsen to depart Aberdeen as a Norway return is on the cards

Nilsen is set to complete a move away from Scotland this International break as a switch back to Norway looks likely. Sources in Norway have been suggesting Sivert is on the varge of joining Norwegian side, FK Haugesund ahead of the Norwegian transfer window shutting on Tuesday next week ahead of the season in Norway beginning on the 6th of April. Nilsen joined Aberdeen under former boss, Jimmy Thelin in 2024, joining the Reds’ from Brann where the midfielder originally played under Jimmy during their time in Sweden as Elfsborg. The midfielder missed Aberdeen’s famous Scottish Cup Final victory over Celtic at the summit of last season after picking up a strange eye injury in a training incident which kept the 34-year-old out for some time. Nilsen has been used as a centre-back on multiple occasions as Aberdeen try and battle the injury crisis at the back with most recently playing part at the back in their 2-1 defeat to Celtic at the beginning of March. Nilsen has made 56 appearances for Aberdeen, playing under three bosses during his time – Jimmy Thelin, Peter Leven and Stephen Robinson. The Norwegian International has picked up just two goals during his time in Scotland which both came this season. Nilsen has had some tough competition this season with many arrivals in midfield with the likes of Aremu, Cameron, Geiger all joining the club with the likes of Shinnie and Palaversa also competing for a spot with Nilsen being a regular this season. The move to Haugesund will move Nilsen closer to family with Haugesund being just a two-hour journey from where his live should the move away go through.

Stephen Robinson looks to re-unite with former St Mirren man at Pitttodrie

Aberdeen are close to signing former St Mirren defender, Elvis Bwomono due to a defensive crisis in the Granite City. Former St Mirren man Elvin Bwomono looks set to join Aberdeen after being a trialist for Aberdeen in a bounce game against Dundee at Pittodrie yesterday – Aberdeen running out 3-0 winners. Stephen Robinson’s side are keen to sign the defender on a short-term deal until the end of season as the Dons’ look to avoid relegation. Elvis played under Robinson for two years during their time in Paisley which could become the first signing at Pittodrie under the new boss. Bwomono was a key player in the success of the top six finishes in Paisley which saw the Buddies’ return to the European stage. The former St Mirren man most recently had a spell in Iceland which ran out very recently IBV making 10 appearances for the Icelandic outfit. Elvin made 43 appearances in Paisley during his two-year spell as a return to Scotland looks likely for the defender. Aberdeen are having a crisis along the backline with Tobers and McIntrye both missing for the remainder of the season with Knoester also missing but he may return for the final 3 or 4 games in the split. Nicky Devlin is also suffering with a knee injury but may return for the final couple games leaving Stephen Robinson with just Jack Milne, Liam Morrison and Gavin Molloy as his only options in defensive areas. Bwomono is mostly suited at right-back but can also play as a centre-back as Robinson continues to look along the free agent market.

Aberdeen Fan View: A look into what fans thought after Rangers defeat

A look into how some Aberdeen fans reacted on social media following their 4-1 defeat in Glasgow yesterday evening. It was a disappointing evening in Govan as Rangers tore into struggling Aberdeen with Stephen Robinson’s men conceding four on the road. That has left many Dons’ fans furious as a relegation battle is in sight. Some Aberdeen fans believe it is the players that have been at fault this season with Aberdeen fan @AidenMoir4 on X (Twitter) saying: “Can’t believe Robinson gets slated for this, not a single manager would have done any better no matter how we play our football it wouldn’t work”. Some fans have turned on Robinson saying it was a ‘panic option’ but it seems like many fans say it’s the squad rather than managers. Back to the previous point of some fans blaming Robinson, @Dsmithy211 says: “I’ve seen enough, Robinson out”. – Stephen Robinson is getting the stick by some fans despite only being at Pittodrie for just under two weeks. In terms of the relegation battle, @RichardBro68526 suggests: “I hate to say this, we’re in big trouble the teams below us are picking points while we are struggling, worrying times.” – This comes as both Kilmarnock and St Mirren picked up all three points this weekend closing the gap to three points between the trio of clubs as relegation fears build up at Aberdeen. Some fans also believe relegation may be the best for the club as @Weescooty on X says: “Relegation will be best thing for us, board think we are too good to go down”. It’s some worrying times up North as many fans are believing Robinson wasn’t the right man, some feeling it’s the players who should be blamed as well as the majority of the fanbase feeling Aberdeen are well and truly in the relegation battle. Some interesting weeks ahead as Aberdeen travel to Paisley with Robinson facing his former side before taking on Hibernian ahead of the split. Could this be the year which see’s Aberdeen relegated for the first time in their history or will Aberdeen survive the drop and continue their Premiership status?

Stephen Robinson confirms Aberdeen are fighting a “relegation battle” after Rangers defeat

Stephen Robinson feels his side are officially in the relegation battle after a 4-1 defeat at Ibrox. While speaking to Premier Sports, Robinson made it clear he wasn’t pleased with the manner in conceding the goals as the Gers’ put four past the struggling Dons. The Dons boss said: “If you concede goals like that you won’t win football matches and that’s the reason we are where we are. It’s too easy to concede goals. We make changes, you know to give yourself a chance after half-time, for thirty minutes we were solid, we frustrated them, and then you come out in the second half, where you go further forward, you bring subs on and you concede a really, really poor goal. All three goals, the only goal that was a really good goal was Tavernier’s, obviously, with the free-kick. Way, way too easy. It’s been the story of the season. It’s not acceptable for Aberdeen Football Club, for us to let goals in that easy as a collective. Some people can run forward quicker than they can run back and that has to change. I’ve told a few home truths tonight and it has to be. It should have been done six months ago because there’s certainly talent there, but we have to have the same desire to run back and defend and put our bodies on the line as we do running forward. It’s frustrating, the reality is we’re in a dogfight and that’s been told tonight and people have to react to that.” Robinson is against using any excuses in his sides recent performances as the players really need to start performing before Aberdeen are dragged further down. He added: “The excuses are gone. People need to step up now. Aberdeen Football Club doesn’t owe anybody, they owe Aberdeen Football Club and all of us do to make sure we fight and scrap to get ourselves out of this position before we reset anything for next year.” Aberdeen are now fully in a relegation battle as Aberdeen currently sit ninth, just three points ahead of both St Mirren and Kilmarnock who both picked up wins on the weekend to continue the pressure on Aberdeen. Up next is an International break for time to re-group ahead of a tricky two games before the split as Stephen Robinson travels to face his former club in St Mirren before Hibernian travel up North.

Stephen Robinson swaps Paisley for the Granite City

Aberdeen have this morning announced Stephen Robinson as their new first-team manager on a three-year deal. Aberdeen’s two-month wait for a manager since Jimmy Thelin departed has came to an end as Stephen Robinson has agreed to become the new boss in the Granite City. Robinson started managing in the youth systems of the Northern Irish National Team, managing the U17s, U19s and U21s before joining Oldham Athletic in 2016 where the Ex-St Mirren man was let go following a poor run. Stephen then agreed to join the Steelmen making his move to Motherwell in 2017 guiding the Fir Park side to a third place finish as well as qualification into the Europa League Qualifiers. He also let the Steelmen to two cup finals – losing both to Celtic. He then moved onto Morecambe before joining the Buddies where he gained three back-to-back top six finishes as well as bringing European Football back to St Mirren. He also brought home silverware at the beginning of the current campaign, defeating Celtic 3-1 in the Scottish League Cup final. Robinson has been at the heart of giving youngsters the chance and developing well which saw them gain big moves down south as we saw with Evan Mooney making the switch to Arsenal. New Dons boss, Stephen Robinson said: “When this opportunity arose, there was no way I could turn it down. “Aberdeen has a tremendous history and there’s no mistaking it is a huge Club. The facilities and resources that will be at my disposal are excellent and more importantly, the fan base is tremendous so I’m excited to work for a Club of this size and strive to take it forward. “I appreciate it has been a tough period for everyone, but players respond to positivity so we’ve got to stick together going forward. “We will put a team out on the pitch to get the points we need to finish this season as strongly as we can. “Aberdeen have clear ambition but it needs an identity, it needs direction and I aim to give the club that so we need everyone to get behind myself, the staff and the players.” AFC Sporting Director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, said: “Results have clearly not been what we had hoped for or expected in recent weeks. “The Board and I recognised we needed a new Head Coach in position sooner rather than later and Stephen, who was part of this process from the outset, was the clear candidate to take on the role now. “He is a highly experienced coach with a strong track record of delivering results in this league and we believe he will bring stability in the short term whilst also providing the vision to build success for this club in the future.” Aberdeen have a tricky run of fixtures with meetings against Falkirk, Rangers and Hibernian coming up as well as a trip to his former side, St Mirren in Paisley.

Aberdeen given permission to speak to Stephen Robinson regarding Dons job

St. Mirren boss Stephen Robinson has this morning been given permission to speak to Aberdeen regarding the vacant managerial job at Pittodrie. Aberdeen have been struggling big time this season as the Dons sit 9th, with many believing relegation may be a possibility. The Granite City club have been without a manager since their defeat away at Falkirk at the start of the year when Jimmy Thelin was let go. Peter Leven has been taking temporary charge but hasn’t been able to succeed, as his side most recently were knocked out of the Scottish Cup with a 3-0 defeat at Dunfermline. Stephen Robinson has had his contract clause met by Aberdeen as they are set to begin talks between the two sides. Robinson took over the Paisley side in 2022, guiding the buddies to three back-to-back top six finishes with multiple European finishes. The Northern Irish coach won St Mirren the Scottish League Cup back at the start of the season, defeating Celtic 3-1 at Hampden Park, and has led them to multiple top six finishes in consecutive seasons. In terms of league form this year however, it’s been a season to forget as the Paisley outfit sit 10th in the Premiership, and could also be set to fight out a relegation battle. Although Robinson has taken his side into the Scottish Cup semi-final where they meet Celtic again at the National Stadium. St Mirren sit five points behind Aberdeen as Robinson may be set to make his switch up North. Despite his past seasons in charge, Robinson has a win rate of just 36% over his four-year spell in Paisley, which sits at on average 1.3 points per game.
