Aberdeen 1-0 Hearts: Jambos Stunned at Pittodrie

Topi Keskinen (39’) Aberdeen had a stronger start to the game with a shot on target for Dylan Lobban in 2 minutes. Hearts were quick to fight back with a Kyziridis free kick floated over top landing with StuartFindlay but the shot was just wide in the end and would have potentially been pulled back for offside. McInnes’ side have not won at Pittodrie since May 2016 which ended as a 1-0 win for the Jambos. It wasn’t meant to be for the travelling side as The Dons opened the scoring after 39 minutes Topi Keskinen with a shot from outside the box hit into the bottom right corner of the goal. Into the second half Hearts looked to be the stronger side with some more pressing chances Tomas Magnusson fired a header straight at the goalkeeper. They had back to back chances first from Landry Kabore fired wide right side of the goal and Kyziridis just a minute later but again straight across the goal. Final chance of the game for the Jamtarts and it was a cross from Christian Borchgrevink onto James Wilson but was headed wide of goal. A convincing performance for Aberdeen, and a lot of improvements in recent matches. A first loss of the season for Hearts while missing some of the key players from the squad. Jimmy Thelin’s side take on FC Noah on Thursday night in the Europa Conference league. McInnes’ next match is away to Motherwell next Saturday. Findlay Marshall suggests he has a “good chance” at breaking into the Dons side

Findlay Marshall on loan from Aberdeen is hopeful of first team football at Pittodrie after impressing on loan in the Championship at Arbroath, picking up most recently, player of the month. The midfielder believes he has a “good chance” at breaking into the Dons squad next season. The midfielder has six goals at Arbroath including three assists with his best performance being against league leaders, St Johnstone in a 3-1 win where the Aberdeen loanee netted twice. Marshall had a prior loan spell in Cove as did Aberdeen team mate, Dylan Lobban who has most recently broken into the first team after very impressive signs from the 20-year-old. Aberdeen fans are very eager for new sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel to give the midfielder an extended contract in the Granite City. Marshall stated while speaking to RedTV: “He said: “I feel like I’ve backed myself. “I think I’ve got a good chance and seeing the likes of Dyl playing, hopefully I can get that chance. “But right now, I’m just focusing on Arbroath, because it’s been really good so far. “I’ll just try to keep doing well for them and then see what comes of it.” “I still needed to learn and play. “At that time, I don’t think I was probably ready (for Aberdeen), so I just wanted to go and play and enjoy it and see where it took me. “I feel like so far it’s going well, so we’ll just see what happens.” Marshall is currently training Monday, Wednesday and Friday where the midfielder trains Tuesday and Thursday with his team mates at Arbroath, Findlay mainly trains with the youth side. Many other youngsters who train with Findlay have also been sent out loan to clubs such as Elgin City, Kelty Hearts and Keith FC. Aberdeen are still keen on Findlay to develop in certain areas as the Arbroath man has held talks with Thelin as well as transition manager, Stewart Duff. “Yeah, definitely. I speak to them (Jimmy and his staff) most Mondays or whenever I see them,” Marshall said. “They’ll ask me how I’m getting on, and see how I’m getting on and stuff, so still definitely involved in that aspect. “Duff’s really good with that as well. We’ll sit down and watch all my clips and then he’ll give me some bits of advice. “There’s definitely a plan that we’ve got in place of what I want to get better at.” Marshall and other team mates are inspired by the breakthrough of Dons academy prospect, Dylan Lobban as the right-back has earnt starts over Kilmarnock, AEK Larnaca and Motherwell. Marshall said: “I was buzzing for him, because I’ve seen how hard he’s worked and I feel like he’s been knocking on the door for a while, so I was delighted. “And I was saying to a few of the boys, like, that inspires us – you want to see young boys from Aberdeen playing. Everyone does. “It just gives you that boost and a happy sort of mindset about all the young boys when we’re training, and all of the coaches – because they’ve worked so hard with him as well. “Obviously all of us want to achieve that, but if you can see somebody else doing it – somebody that you’ve been so close with – it’s good as well. It helps.” It is proven how good of an academy Aberdeen have now with Lobban breaking through and Marshall certainly showing his quality. It’s not just the duo impressing this season as Alfie Stewart (Inverness CT), Jack Searle, Alfie Bavidge (Inverness CT), Dylan Ross (Elgin City) all impressing out on loan.

Aberdeen return to winning ways after big win in Ayrshire

Stuart Armstrong’s first half strike earns Aberdeen crucial win in Ayrshire and ends the Dons’ five year drought at Rugby Park It was an impressive start for the Dons, where they saw the majority of the possession. Aberdeen had a very early chance, but Jesper Karlsson’s effort was blocked. Kilmarnock soon had one of their own, from the edge of the box, but it was well saved by Mitov in goals. Aberdeen found themselves ahead after 16 minutes, Karlsson with an effort deflected off a Kilmarnock defender, where Stuart Armstrong calmly struck it into the corner of the net to send the Dons ahead. Killie had a great chance to draw level, Dackers had an attempt from close range but fired high, which should’ve rattled the back of the net. Aberdeen probably played the better football, but it’s just the one goal which separates the sides going into the break. Killie had a great chance early in the first half, Thomson with a corner into the box, and Deas with a simple tap in at the back post but smashed it high and misses as the ball came quickly at him. Robbie Deas had the ball in the net, a short free kick from Thomson clipped onto Polworth, who whipped it into the box, but Brad Lyons, who put the ball into Deas, found himself offside. Zac Williams nearly had the hosts level again, but a header was saved comfortably by Mitov in goals. Kilmarnock came close once again in the final 15, a corner in from Dominic Thomson, and Lyons coming in quickly with his heading, firing wide of goal. Aberdeen were having to defend well in the latter stages as Kilmarnock were looking very confident in grabbing an equaliser as the hosts piled on the pressure. The home side were piling on the pressure but just weren’t managing to get the ball into the net as the Dons continued to defend for their lives. There were penalty claims by Killie after Dackers was taken down by the goal scorer, Armstrong, but nothing given. The full-time whistle went, as the Dons will be very glad the whistle went, but a crucial three points for Aberdeen as Jimmy Thelin takes the vital win back up to Pittodrie. Jimmy Thelin and Aberdeen make the trip to Ayrshire to face Kilmarnock

Aberdeen make a trip to Ayrshire in which has proven tough for the Dons’ as pressure mounts on Jimmy Thelin. Kilmarnock haven’t started badly so far this campaign as the Ayrshire side sit 8th only two points off of top six. However, they have only picked up two league wins this season with four draws and three defeats for the Ayrshire side. Aberdeen on the other hand, they have had a poor start to the season as the Dons’ sit 11th just one point off of bottom of the league Livingston. They have also just had the two wins as well the one draw and six defeats in the process. Pressure has been building on Jimmy Thelin since Sunday as Killie look to continue to put the pressure on Jimmy. Form Kilmarnock have lost their last two matches despite them being very tough. The Rugby Park outfit lost to league leaders, Hearts 3-0 before being defeated to Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday. Their last league victory came at the start of October, defeating St Mirren 2-0. Aberdeen however, they were defeated at home to Hibernian 2-1 in a game which was full of drama with Hibs showing their class in the Granite City. Aberdeen picked up their only two wins recently defeating Dundee 4-0 and a very last gasp winner by Marko Lazetic to secure the win at St Mirren. Last meeting The last time these sides met, Aberdeen ran away 1-0 winners in February thanks to a late Oday Dabbagh goal securing Aberdeen the win. The last meeting in Ayrshire between the sides, Killie won 4-0 on Boxing Day last year to give the Killie support a late Christmas gift. Aberdeen have had very bad luck in Ayrshire as the Dons’ haven’t manage to secure a win at Rugby Park since 2020 with Ryan Hedges and Sam Cosgrove sealing a 2-0 against 10 man Killie. Stats Kilmarnock have found their shooting boots, scoring 7 goals in their last five. The sides have not drawn in the last 13 meetings. Aberdeen have netted on 8 occasions in their last 5. On loan winger, Karlsson has created the most chances for the Dons’ (4). Killie top goal scorer is David Watson with three goals and Lazetic for the visitors with two goals. In this meeting, Aberdeen have won 52, Kilmarnock have won 36 as well as 23 draws. Kilmarnock have won their last four home meetings with Aberdeen although Stuart Kettlewell has lost 8 in his last 11 meetings with Aberdeen.

Aberdeen Appoint New Sporting Director

Lutz Pfannenstiel will join Aberdeen as sporting director, and the German is looking forward to joining a club with “true footballing soul”. The 52-year-old German will officially arrive at Pittodrie on November 10th and brings a wealth of experience. After aiding Fortuna Düsseldorf (as Sporting Director) to an impressive 10th-place finish in the Bundesliga, he spent five years in the same role for MLS club St Louis City. He enjoyed similar success for the MLS side, where he was instrumental in founding the youth academy and saw the team win the Western Conference in 2023. Pfannenstiel’s appointment comes at a critical moment for the side, with manager Jimmy Thelin under pressure. The Dons sit 11th in the Scottish Premiership table, having secured two victories in their opening nine league matches. Aberdeen Chairman Dave Cormack expressed high hopes for the new hire, citing Pfannenstiel’s technical knowledge and vast network as key factors in the selection process. “His technical knowledge, academy development experience and global recruitment network were key factors in the board selecting him for this critical role.” Pfannenstiel brings not only extensive professional expertise but also one of the most colourful backstories in football. His dramatic life includes a stint in a Singapore jail, where he spent 101 days on match-fixing accusations before being released for lack of evidence. Jimmy Thelin speaks on speculation linking him with Sweden vacancy

Jimmy Thelin cancelling out the noise on a potential move to become the Sweden boss. This week there has been talk with Aberdeen boss, Jimmy Thelin being shortlisted to become to head coach of the Sweden National Team following sacking of Jon Dal Thomason. Jimmy Thelin speaking to RedTV in a recent interview: “It’s always an honour to be mentioned in these circumstances but I have a long contract here. I’m really happy at Aberdeen Football Club. “We have so many things, hopefully good things to look forward to at Aberdeen Football Club. My focus is 100% here. “I’m really happy here, I have a contract here, and I really enjoy being at Aberdeen Football Club. The spirit and the surroundings here, we have been through a tough time now, but we have a still a strong belief in this three year plan we have, we are working with the same process all the time, and it’s a journey I really like to be involved in.” Talks of the Scottish Cup winning manager to become the Sweden boss have been swept under the carpet as former Brighton boss, Graham Potter looks set to take the hot seat until March to keep all eyes on a place in the World Cup for Sweden.

Aberdeen Manager Jimmy Thelin in Frame for National Job

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin is one of the names on the list to take over the Swedish National Team following the departure of head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson. Jimmy took over the Scottish side last summer, where he took the Dons to Scottish Cup success over Celtic after a 1-1 draw and a penalty victory at the National Stadium. Thelin took Aberdeen on the impressive 11-game unbeaten run, going toe-to-toe with Celtic at the beginning of the last campaign despite the fall off in performances in the winter period. Thelin has also had some big results during his time with a famous win over Eintracht Frankfurt at Pittodrie, as well as wins over rivals, Rangers. Jimmy had racked up an average of 1.52 points per game in his 62 games at Pittodrie so far as he made a statement in his time for far in the Granite City. However, this season Jimmy hasn’t had an amazing season, only having one win on the board this campaign, with the win coming over Dundee last week. The Dons sit rock bottom, but momentum could be set to build following the win at Pittodrie last weekend. The Dons are currently in the UEFA Conference League following FCSB dumping the Dons out of the Europa League. The Dons will also miss out on a spot in the League Cup Semifinals with Motherwell knocking the Red Army out.

The Swedish international has came out today and confirmed the reason’s he made the move from Italy to the Granite City. Jimmy Thelin was the main reason the winger moved to Scotland as Jimmy managed Jesper during their time in Sweden at Elfsborg. Two former Aberdeen stars were also apart of the decision of the Bologna winger with former Dons men Lewis Ferguson and Ylber Ramadani playing a pivotal part in the move for the Swedish star. The attacker made a €11.1million (£9.6million) from Dutch side, AZ Alkmaar back in 2023 but has failed to hit the ground running hence why he made the loan move to the Scottish side. The winger scored on 46 occasions over a three year spell at AZ Alkmaar and has netted three times in six during his stint in Scotland so far. They said only good things.” “I have not played many 90 minutes recently,” Karlsson confirmed “I think the last time was in 2023 with the national team. “So I also feel like I am not there yet in my fitness and confidence, although I feel more and more like I am getting it back when I train. “The more I play, I will get better. “It’s a good league with good teams and I have respect for the football here.” Karlsson has 14 Swedish caps and five international goals, but he hasn’t played for his country in two years. Jesper Karlsson in full belief the Dons can find their feet following Dundee victory

Jasper Karlsson believes Aberdeen can kick start their season after the International break. On loan Bologna winger, Jesper Karlsson believes the dons can get going after claiming their first league win of the campaign against Dundee. Despite their 4-0 win over Steven Presley’s Dundee, they remain bottom but the dons look like they’re on the rise again. Aberdeen played fantastically against Dundee in their 4-0 victory which could’ve definitely have been more in a very bright display. Aberdeen haven’t had the start they’d hoped for but a big win on the weekend restores belief within the Aberdeen side. The on loan Bologna man came up with 2 goals against Dundee as well as a goal against Shakhtar Donetsk from the penalty spot on Thursday night. Karlsson hopes to be a key player at the Pittodrie side as the Swede looks to be an outstanding capture. The Italian outfit signed Jesper from Dutch side, AZ Alkmaar for £10million and is certainly a gem of a pickup by Jimmy Thelin. Karlsson will be looking to continue to help Aberdeen as they prepare for a trip to Paisley to face St Mirren after the International break, a place where Aberdeen have found to be very difficult in past meetings. Karlsson said: “There is now a little bit more relief for the situation we are in. “We have a good team with good players and I think we just need some games to get things going. “And a little bit of luck or something, and then we will go forward.” Aberdeen’s disastrous start to the season displayed signs of turning around when narrowly losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in Europe. Jesper said: “We built on what we did in the Shakhtar game. “It was good to do that and then go on to get the win against Dundee. “At the penalty I wanted to shoot to the middle, so it wasn’t good. “However, the second goal was really good. “Adil (Aouchiche) and Emmanuel (Gyamfi) scored too, so it was very good from everyone to get goals.”

Aberdeen Meet Ukrainian Giants in Conference League Opener

Aberdeen open their European campaign at Pittodrie against Shakhtar Donetsk tomorrow night. Both sides will be making their Europa Conference League phase debuts on Thursday, but for the visitors, this will be their first time featuring in this competition. The Ukrainian side are well-known to the Champions League, being involved in the top competition five times since 2020 despite dropping to the Europa League on multiple occasions. Aberdeen have endured a difficult league start, sitting at rock bottom of the league, and scoring zero goals in the process. The Dons did reach the Scottish League Cup last 16, but unfortunately, Motherwell booked the spot at Hampden. Aberdeen grabbed guaranteed European football by defeating Celtic in the Scottish Cup despite finishing the league season in fifth. Aberdeen have had some big results in the past in Europe, including the most noticeable 2-0 victory over German giants, Eintracht Frankfurt. Aberdeen was unlucky not to make the Europa League this season, crashing out to Romanian side, FCSB. The Pittodrie side also holds their immaculate two European trophies in 1983. Last time out Aberdeen was on the wrong end once against losing 2-0 courtesy of two late goals by the Steelmen, continuing the losing drought and not finding the back of the net. A look into the visitors A disappointing campaign for the regular Ukrainian champions, sitting 7 points behind champions, Dynamo Kyiv. Shakhtar have had a challenging time of late due to ongoing conflict in Ukraine where the currently play in Germany at the home of Schalke. Shakhtar earlier this season sold top star, Kevin for an outstanding for a fee in the region of £35million. Thursday’s visitors have plenty of quality within their side with players such as Newerton, Pedrinho and Mykola Matviyenko being some to watch. Marian Shved the former Celtic man will be looking to make an impact at Pittodrie. Shakhtar are currently unbeaten in 22 matches, their last defeat being in April losing to FC Kolos Kovalivka. The Ukrainian side were knocked out the Europa League by Greek outfit, Panathinaikos following a goalless aggregate scoreline, losing out on penalties. The Ukrainian side edged past Servette to make the league phase. Shakhtar won the Ukrainian cup last season defeating Dynamo Kyiv thanks to a goal by Elias taking the match to penalties, winning 6-5 in the shootout. Shakhtar Donetsk have got off to an outstanding start, topping their league with five wins and two draws in the process. The side from Donetsk have scored 14 times in their opening 7 games which may draw fear into the Aberdeen side. Also, only four goals conceded which isn’t something the Pittodrie fanbase wants to hear. Shakhtar last time out Shakhtar defeated league leaders Rukh Lviv 4-0 away from home. Meirrelles and Isaque scored alongside a Pedrinho brace. Team news The duo of Dante Polvara and Stuart Armstrong were both missing from the defeat at Motherwell, with both players in contention to return to action. Other than that, the Dons are not suspected of having any other concerns. The visitors will be without £14million star signing, Alisson Santana, due to a broken leg. Lassina Traore and Equinaldo could also miss out through injury.
