Match Preview: Aberdeen host an inform Falkirk side under the lights at Pittodrie.

A look ahead to Aberdeen vs Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.

Aberdeen come into this fixture off the back of a 3-2 defeat against Dundee United at Tannadice in a game that Robinson and Armstrong admitted that they can take positives from. Aberdeen’s last home fixture, which occurred the week before, ended 3-1 to the Dons against St Mirren.

Falkirk come into this fixture in fine form, winning back-to-back matches against the current bottom two—beating Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road before comprehensively beating Kilmarnock 3-0 at home. Falkirk have been rather unlucky in some matches they’ve been involved in this season, conceding stoppage time goals in three games, which cost them points. John McGlynn’s side conceded a 93rd-minute equaliser at Tannadice, a 96th-minute equaliser at McDiarmid Park, and a 91st-minute winner against Dundee at McDiarmid Park.

Falkirk didn’t lose a single match against Aberdeen last season, drawing one and winning two of their three meetings against the Pittodrie club. The last time Aberdeen beat Falkirk in a competitive fixture was all the way back in September 2013, when goals from Shaughnessy and Smith, before a hat-trick from Vernon, saw Aberdeen win 5-0 in the League Cup.

Aberdeen currently sit in ninth position on eleven points after ten games played, four points clear of twelfth, but also four points behind fourth. Falkirk leapfrogged into seventh place following their convincing victory over Kilmarnock, and, should they win at Pittodrie, they could move as high as fourth, depending on other results.

Stephen Robinson admitted that he has injury concerns going into Wednesday:

Robinson said: “Injury-wise, I mean, who will get the virus next? We don’t know; it seems to be spreading through everybody, but we know Lewis Mayo will definitely be out for a minimum of two months. Mats Knoester, again, that’s an injury, not an illness, so we will assess him. It will be a huge boost if we can get Mats back, and Dan Happe, hopefully, has recovered from the virus because he had it quite early, but it will certainly be a late decision again.”

In continuation, Connor Ronan has been ruled out with a medical ligament issue, which could be long-term.

John McGlynn on Aberdeen: “We know that the fans are a little bit restless up there, and we have to try and again use that to help our advantage. We can go out there, get a good start as we did against Hibs in our last away game, and make it a little bit uncomfortable for them. We know it’s a hard place to go, but we went last year and we won early doors and then we got a draw towards the end of the season.”
