Have Dundee United found their midfield three?

Dundee United are coming off the back of two wins and two clean sheets in a row and look to be building some real momentum. The performances of Lyall Cameron, Zidane Iqbal and Dylan Tait have stood out in both games. After an up and down start to the season, has Jim Goodwin found his starting midfield three?

Dundee United have had an up and down start to the season so far. This lack of consistency has been mirrored by successive squad upheavals, with the Terrors coming close to replacing their entire playing squad for the second season in a row.

This upheaval has made establishing a set starting eleven difficult for Jim Goodwin and his coaching staff as they try to assess the best options for their side. United typically do their business very early to try and counteract this, but two of the later signings in the summer window look to have made the biggest impact – Zidane Iqbal and Lyall Cameron.

The arrival of Cameron and Iqbal, on loan and permanent deals respectively, has directly coincided with an upturn in form from Dundee United. Both players have something of a point to prove, with both Iqbal and Cameron struggling for minutes at their former and parent sides.

Iqbal’s pedigree speaks for itself – a Manchester United academy graduate coming off of a strong personal showing for Iraq at the World Cup over the summer. Lyall Cameron is a known quantity to United fans, with the boyhood fan having been a key player for rivals Dundee.

Crucially, the combination of these two players seems to have positively impacted fellow new signing Dylan Tait, who had been having a solid but unspectacular start to his Dundee United career after moving from Premiership rivals Falkirk in the summer.

Dundee United fans will be hoping that their midfield three can take their good form into upcoming games against in-form St Johnstone at McDairmid Park before they welcome Aberdeen to Tannadice.
