Hibernian have confirmed the signing of Rabbi Matondo on a deal that will run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, with the club holding the option of a further year.
The 26-year-old has spent the last few weeks on trial with the Easter Road club and was a part of the squad that travelled to La Manga for a training camp during the international break.
Matondo becomes the first signing under new Hibs boss Marink Reedijk having impressed during his trial spell with four goal contributions in two bounce games, which has earned him a permanent deal and a return to Scottish football.
The Welshman is an attacking winger who can play on either flank. He has been without a club since August, after a short spell at Norwegian Eliteserien side SK Brann.
Matondo has experience of Scottish football, having joined Rangers in 2022 where he made 70 appearances and contributed to 19 goals across four seasons before departing at the end of March.
He spent time out on loan at German second-tier side Hannover 96 during his time with Rangers. Matondo struggled to cement himself as a regular starter at Ibrox due to injury issues.
Reedijk claimed that Matondo had made a positive first impression during the time he had spent with him and is now eager to see him in action.
Reedijk said: “I’m really pleased to welcome Rabbi to Hibernian FC.
“He made an immediate impression during our time in La Manga and has shown a great attitude, strong application, and a real willingness to learn and adapt.
“Rabbi gives us pace, directness and a real threat in wide areas, while also bringing a positive personality into the dressing room.
“He has settled in quickly, and we are looking forward to working with him and seeing the impact he can make.”
Matondo could make his debut on Saturday when Hibs travel to Dundee to face Dundee United at Tannadice, with kick-off at 3pm.
