Despite representing England at youth levels, new Scotland defender Luis Binks has maintained that representing Scotland was always the goal.

Binks, who captains Danish side Brondby received his first senior call-up in Sebastien Pocognoli’s Scotland squad for the September international break.

The defender was born in England and represented them as high as under-19s level, but is now preparing to play for the nation of his Grandfather.

Binks echoed his manager’s points about not convincing players to play for Scotland, he said: “I think if he had to try and convince me, convince anyone, it’s probably not the right thing for the player.

“I didn’t need any convincing; I was available.

“I wanted to play for Scotland. I’ve wanted to play for Scotland for years and now the opportunity has come, I’m just really proud.”

Should Binks make his debut right away, it will come away to Slovenia on Saturday before hosting Switzerland at Barclays Hampden on Tuesday.  Scotland will then make the trip to North Macedonia prior to a home tie against Slovenia as they aim top return to League A of the UEFA Nations League.
