After a long international break, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour suffered a disappointing week as Napoli lost consecutive Champions League matches. In more positive news, Ché Adams returned to the scoresheet as he recovers from injury, whilst Danny Armstrong continued his fine start to the season. Here’s a round-up of how Scotland’s abroad contingent faired this past week:
Scott McTominay & Billy Gilmour: As mentioned, it was a disappointing week for Napoli as they suffered two defeats in a week. Both men started in the midfield as Napoli were defeated 3-1 away to Villarreal. They followed this up with a 1-0 loss away to Venezia. Napoli currently sit ninth in Serie A after the opening seven games. Next up, Napoli travel to Bodø/Glimt, a trip that has witnessed many giant killings so far in the Champions League.
Ché Adams: The Torino striker missed out on Pocognoli’s first Scotland camp through injury, but has returned to the Torino starting line-up as club football returned. Adams scored his third Serie A goal of the season in only five games as Torino defeated Parma 3-0 away from home. The result leaves Torino sat 10th in the table.
Danny Armstrong: Dinamo Bucharest winger Danny Armstrong continued his excellent start to the season as he scored a late opener in Dinamo Bucharest’s 2-0 win over FC Botosani. Armstrong has now scored five goals and provided 10 assists in just 12 league games in Romania so far this season. The result means Dinamo Bucharest remain top of the table and pundits in Romania are now tipping Armstrong to receive his first Scotland call-up next month.
Ryan Gauld: The Vancouver Whitecaps captain led his side to a 2-1 victory away to Matthew McConnaughy’s Austin FC, playing the full 90 minutes. The win leaves Vancouver four points clear of the MLS Western Conference as just four games remain in the MLS regular season.
