SPFL clubs receive record £49.6m in distributions

The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has distributed a record £49.6 million to its clubs over the past year, marking an £7.6m increase on the previous period.

The 18% rise comes from revenue generated through broadcasting rights, licensing, match data and sponsorship, highlighting the continued commercial value of Scottish football.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster described the figures as the strongest financial results in the league’s history, with both turnover and total group distributions surpassing previous records.

The financial news comes amid continued growth in attendances across the Scottish game.

Scottish Premiership crowds topped four million for the first time last season, while figures published by UEFA showed approximately six million supporters attended men’s football matches across Scotland during the 2025/26 campaign.

That included around 900,000 supporters at lower-league matches, 200,000 at domestic cup ties and 800,000 at European fixtures.

Doncaster said balancing broadcasting income with matchday attendances and the atmosphere inside packed stadiums remained central to the SPFL’s appeal.

The figures provide a significant boost for Scottish football, with record distributions and strong supporter numbers underlining the importance of the domestic game both on and off the pitch.
