Hearts Women came out on top in a thrilling Edinburgh derby against Hibernian Women, winning 3 goals to 2 at Easter Road. Mariana Speckmaier stole the show with a hat-trick, while Aoife Colvill’s double kept Hibs in the mix until the final stages.
Speckmaier proved the difference for Hearts after scoring 3 goals, the first came from a free kick taken by Mairead Fulton, floated in over the top to find the Venezuelan unmarked and ready to slot the ball into the net.
Hibs did not back down and found themselves level after 32 minutes to keep the hosts in the game.
But it wasn’t long until Speckmaier was back again scoring in 44 minutes to put Hearts ahead into half time.
Two goals were not enough for the striker and she found the back of the net again after 69 minutes to seal her first hat-trick of the season, she said after the game “You can’t ask for a occasion to score a hat-trick than a derby, can you”
The afternoon wasn’t quite over yet as Hibs set their sights on another goal, Aoife Colvill with a powerful shot from outside the box in 81 minutes brought more pressure back into the game.
Hearts managed the final stages of the game well despite being a player down, Ellen Dolan was sent off in extra time after a tackle saw her booked for the second time in the game.
