Pressley Previews Falkirk and Opens up on the Injury Crisis at Dens

Dundee could be without seven starters ahead of their trip to the Falkirk Stadium on Saturday as the injury crisis continues.

Dundee are currently without many key starters and face a big issue in the final third as Joe Westley has picked up an ankle issue during training throughout the week as well as on-loan man, Bobby Wales a doubt following international duty with also Simon Murray being out for the season after an ACL injury at Pittodrie a while back.

Zan Besir, Jack Moorhouse, Finlay Robertson, Charlie Reilly and Ryan Finnigan are also all out for their own injury concerns as the worries for Steven Pressley continue to stack up.

Pressley was looking delighted with his options in attack last week with Ashley Hay returning but of course, the mood has not flattened with Westley and Wales both now set to miss out in their trip to Falkirk on Saturday.

Pressley said: “Joe (Westley) rolled his ankle in training this morning so will probably be scanned tomorrow if there’s not too much swelling.

“It’s not the same ankle he had a problem with before, but we’re just going to have to wait and see how he is.

“Bobby is due back from the U/21s later on Wednesday so will be scanned then. He has significant swelling on his ankle.

“We should have an understanding of his condition by tomorrow morning at the latest.

“I’ve never known anything like this in my own experience in management.

“I’ve been at clubs before or around clubs where we’ve had an injury crisis, but I’ve never known it to happen to so many key and pivotal players at one time.

“We’ve more or less had a season’s worth of injuries in six or seven weeks.

“I had been talking about looking forward to having good strength in the forward area and went home on Tuesday night thinking that’s what we’d have.

“But that’s changed now.

“Every one of them would consider themselves to be starters.

“Three strikers – Simon Murray, Bobby, Joe and then four midfielders – Jack Moorhouse, Ryan Finnigan, Charlie Reilly and Fin Robertson.

“Add in Zan Besir for this weekend because of his ban, that’s eight players we’re missing.”

The Dens Park side makes the trip to Falkirk this weekend as Pressley urges his side to show “character” at Falkirk.

The Dundee boss said: “Those that are fit and ready are going to have to show incredible resolve, incredible energy, incredible character for us to get a result at a stadium where we have failed to get a result in since it’s been open, if truth be told, we have not won at the new Falkirk Stadium as yet, and our last league away win was in 1996 against Falkirk which was at Brockville. So, there’s a lot of things stacking up against is, but that’s the challenge for us.”
