Dundee United 1-0 Hibs - Nightmare start for Reedijk following defeat at Tannadice

Daniel Rennie first-half goal enough to rub salt in the wounds of the new era as Easter Road.

Hibs started as the better side in the opening minutes although neither side creating any clear-cut chances but Hibs have certainly began the brighter of the two.

A chance Hibs must score on eight minutes, a darting run goal bound, the ball played across to Passlack on the right-hand who delivered a low ball into the box with Mulligan very unlucky not to send the 3,000 Hibees into chaos.

Brilliant play by both Klidje and Elding gave the Hibs number 18 a chance from distance but a tame effort denies the lead.

Chaiwa had a chance from just inside the box, it looked as he was set to unleash a powerful attempt, but took an extra touch but failing to rattle the back of the met.

Randall had United’s best chance on 23 minutes, a strike from close range well stopped by Sallinger.

Moments later, Esselink had a chance, a corner in which Esselink used his back foot but was a simple catch for the Hibernian number one.

Bennie with possibly the best chance so far, a strike from not too far out which went just over as both sides continue to battle for a lead in a very exciting game so far.

Cameron fizzled a cross across the box which no one got to but very soon after United got ahead as a low ball was crossed across the box and there was Daniel Bennie to hit it home to give the new Hibs boss a nightmare start.

Into the second half, very poor play by Hibs again as Klidje slotted it into Suto who had a perfect chance to shoot, he failed to do so, passing a well hit pass to Elding where the Hibs man just couldn’t connect with the ball as frustration was clear from the visiting support.

Matondo almost made a quick impact with a fast pacey run which was eventually intercepted by the United backline as Hibs search and equaliser.

A brilliant run in by Wright, unleashed a ball into the box and Passlack met which he smashed an effort which was very well blocked.

Hibs who were in possession were robbed following shouts from Goodwin to press, the ball fell kindly to Cameron, he slotted it into Bennie who smacked a first time strike over the bar.

Ciubotaru was awarded plenty of space after 70 minutes on the left-flank, it was played across goal which was blocked by Iredale which if it wasn’t stopped, Dundee United would certainly have had their second.

Dundee United were awarded a penalty in the last 10 minutes as Devanny clipped Farrugia in the box to rub salt in the wounds but after a VAR check, it was given as a free-kick which resulted as Devanny being shown red after just being brought on.

A deserved win for Jim Goodwins men as Marink Reedijk suffers defeat on his first outing for the Edinburgh side which left frustrations in the away end.
