Scotland talisman Scott McTominay believes he is close to finding his best level after successfully recovering from a heart surgery.
The Napoli midfielder scored a goal in each half as the Serie A side picked up their first Champions League victory of the season against Bodo/Glimt.
Speaking postmatch after the 4-3 win, McTominay just wants to help the team as much as he can, with his side enduring a mixed start to the season sitting in 9th.
For me it was all about keeping my head down and working hard. I still have to complete more physical programs to get back to my best level, and I feel I’m very close to that now. I can still improve, though.
“We have been going through a difficult phase, and we know we have to perform better, but scoring four goals is a good start. All I want is to help the team as much as possible, and the important thing was to get the result, and we did that.
“I’m lucky I get to play with Kevin De Bruyne because he is an incredible player. We have a great midfield, and we need to exploit his and our qualities.”
It was discovered that McTominay required a minimally invasive operation to correct irregular heart rhythms and was substituted after 56 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Como in August.
Thankfully the procedure was a success and after missing out on the start of Scotland’s Nation League campaign, the talisman will hope to be included in Sebastien Pocognoli’s next selection.
