Marink Reedijk has revealed that Martin Boyle will still play an “important” role in the Hibs squad, despite passing the captaincy to Felix Passlack.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s noon kickoff against Celtic, the Dutchman acknowledged improvements in his side’s performance against Falkirk, but stressed the need for more “variation” in their play.
“What we need to improve is finding the right moments and having variation in our play, not only playing short, but also mixing it up by playing in behind to keep the opponent guessing and ask more questions of them, rather than just always trying to play out from the back,” Reedijk explained.
Reedijk is still searching for his first win after two matches in charge of a Hibs side that has not tasted league victory since August. To turn the tide at Easter Road, he believes the team must focus on what they can control to rebuild belief.
“Confidence isn’t something you can just switch on and off,” he said. “Confidence starts with hard work, graft, and smart work. We need to focus on the things we have control over, and eventually, confidence will follow.”
Hibs will be hunting for their first home win against Celtic at Easter Road since February 2025, following back-to-back home defeats last season.
“Celtic is a good team to play against, and they bring challenges, but we can cause them problems too, and hopefully we can keep the three points here in Edinburgh.”
Reedijk also shed light on his decision to name Felix Passlack as the club’s new captain, while being quick to praise the leadership of his predecessor.
“Felix is someone who leaves everything on the pitch, he’s aggressive and front-footed. That’s the example I want to set for everyone in the stadium and within the squad. That’s what we are looking for,” Reedijk said.
As for Boyle, he added: “Martin has a great character, and he brings a different dynamic and manner of leadership to our team. That’s still really important for us to have in the squad, even if his role is different now.”
