Switzerland assistant coach Davide Calla believes Sebastien Pocognoli’s side showed their qualities in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia, and expects a passionate performance from the hosts.

Head coach Murat Yakin missed Switzerland’s media conference due to “hearing problems,” leaving his assistant to step in and fulfil pre-match duties.

“He struggled with the pressure from the flight, so he can’t participate in this press conference,” the Swiss FA confirmed.

“He will be at the training session, and we hope these complaints will be resolved, as has been the case in the past, so he can be in good health for the game.”

“There were some problems with the weight as we took off. That meant we had to land back in Zurich so they could put more fuel in the aircraft.”

Calla confirmed that the management team has “spent a lot of time looking at Scotland,” following up their Quarter-Final appearance at the World Cup with a dominant 3–0 win over North Macedonia on Saturday evening.

The former Swiss midfielder expects Scotland to showcase their quality at Hampden Park, noting that this match presents a different challenge than their 1–1 draw in Cologne during Euro 2024.

“With the change of setup, it will be a different proposition to the Euros, but we know what to expect,” Calla explained.

“They will be robust, play with a lot of passion, and they have a lot of quality players, especially in midfield, with the ball at their feet.

“In the second half against Slovenia, they showed the quality they have. It was clear Scotland were better in the second half.

“It’s an absolute highlight playing at this brilliant stadium. We’ll have plenty of motivation for this big match.”

Scotland continue their Nations League campaign against Switzerland tonight at Barclays Hampden, kicking off at 7:45pm.
