Johansson Wants Fearless Motherwell in Freiburg Decider

Alfred Johansson insists Sunday’s defeat to Hearts was not a fair reflection of his side’s performance, though he acknowledged that improvements must be made ahead of Wednesday’s clash at McDiarmid Park.

A goal in each half secured Hearts’ first away win outside Edinburgh since January, extending the Steelmen’s winless streak in the league to six matches.

Speaking after the final whistle, Johansson admitted his frustration, particularly following Calvin Miller’s decisive strike.

“It certainly wasn’t a 2-0 game based on the chances both teams created,” Johansson said.

“We did a lot of good things, but football is decided in both boxes. We did enough to get into goalscoring positions, but we failed to take our chances, which is deeply frustrating for all of us.

“Defensively, it was too easy for them in our box, and that’s not good enough if you want to win games in this league. It’s frustrating to drop points like this again.

“We need to improve, that means me, the players, and the work we put in on the training ground.”

With matches coming thick and fast, Johansson is eager for a response when Motherwell travel to Perth to face St Johnstone on Wednesday.

“One game, and even one goal, can change everything, so we have to keep pushing,” he added. “Wednesday gives us another opportunity to take the step forward that everyone here deserves.

“We are doing many things well, but at the end of the day, football is about scoring goals and keeping them out. We need to step up in those crucial moments, and we have to show that on Wednesday.”
