Here is the latest Scottish football news and gossip from around the country.
Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren isolated by Sweden
Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren has been told to isolate from his Sweden teammates after falling ill while on international duty.
Nygren is one of three Sweden players currently being kept apart from the rest of the squad, alongside former Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke and Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari.
The trio are understood to be suffering from cold symptoms, with Sweden taking precautions ahead of Friday’s Nations League meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sweden have already called up St Pauli midfielder Eric Smith as cover after training with only 14 players on Wednesday.
Nygren has established himself as an important member of Graham Potter’s squad and scored in Sweden’s recent 3-1 victory over Poland.
It remains to be seen whether the Celtic midfielder will recover in time to feature against Bosnia.
Schmeichel reveals life after Celtic retirement
Former Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has opened up on his unusual new routine following his retirement from professional football.
The 39-year-old was forced to call time on his career at the end of last season after suffering a persistent shoulder injury.
Schmeichel admits the transition has been difficult, joking that he has effectively become a full-time Uber driver for his three children.
The former Leicester City and Denmark number one has also been completing coaching courses and doing television work, while revealing that he still has ambitions of moving into management.
Schmeichel spent two seasons at Celtic and ended his playing career with the Hoops after previously enjoying a hugely successful spell with Leicester City, including their remarkable Premier League title triumph in 2016.
Saracchi admits he wanted Celtic return
Former Celtic defender Marcelo Saracchi has revealed that he wanted to return to Glasgow permanently this summer following his successful loan spell at the club.
The Uruguay international spent last season at Celtic and played a key role in the club’s domestic success under Martin O’Neill.
Saracchi returned to Boca Juniors following the end of his loan but ultimately moved to MLS side Houston Dynamo.
The defender says he and his agent made efforts to secure a permanent Celtic return and believes O’Neill was keen for him to remain.
However, Saracchi claims the feeling did not appear to be shared across the club as a whole.
The 28-year-old has now joined Houston on a deal running through the 2028-29 season, but has left the door open to a possible future return to Celtic.
Dundee forced to consider free-agent market
Dundee are being forced to explore the free-agent market as Steven Pressley’s injury crisis continues to cause problems.
Jack Moorhouse has become the latest player to suffer a serious knee injury, joining a growing list of Dundee players facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.
Captain Simon Murray and Fin Robertson are also among those who have suffered ACL injuries, leaving Pressley with major holes to fill in his squad.
The Dundee boss has confirmed the club are now actively looking at available free agents.
A trialist is also expected to feature when Dundee face Hearts in a bounce game on Thursday as Pressley assesses his options.
Hearts stars set for Dundee return
Hearts are also expected to use Thursday’s bounce game to give several players valuable minutes as they continue their respective recoveries.
Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Oisin McEntee and Finlay Pollock could all feature against Dundee as they work their way back from injury.
The game will give Hearts an opportunity to assess the trio while also providing Dundee with the chance to look at a trialist as Pressley attempts to find solutions to his injury-hit squad.
Former Hearts coach launches player development programme
Former Hearts coach Darren Murray is launching a new player development programme with the aim of helping bring about changes in Scottish football.
Murray has spent years working within youth development and is now looking to take his experience into a new programme focused on player development.
The initiative is aimed at contributing to the development of young footballers and addressing some of the wider challenges surrounding the pathway for emerging Scottish talent.
Skov Olsen reflects on Rangers loan spell
Former Rangers winger Andreas Skov Olsen has admitted he struggled during his loan spell in Scotland because he felt the Scottish game was not the right fit for him.
The Denmark international joined Rangers on loan last season but failed to consistently produce the level of performances expected.
Skov Olsen has now reflected on his time at Ibrox and believes the nature of Scottish football did not suit his game.
His spell in Glasgow ultimately ended without Rangers making the move permanent.
Dylan Reid joins Arbroath
Former St Mirren youngster Dylan Reid has returned to Scottish football after joining Arbroath for the remainder of the season.
The 21-year-old made history as St Mirren’s youngest-ever player when he broke into the first team as a teenager before making the move to Crystal Palace.
Reid spent more than two years with the English club but did not make a first-team appearance before being released.
After a period without a club, he now has the opportunity to rebuild his career in the Scottish Championship with Arbroath.
